I began working with The Good Book Company in 2003, developing their websites and e-commerce systems.
The Good Book Company have four websites internationally, and sell thousands of different products. They had previously had a series of custom and off-the-shelf e-commerce systems, and I built the latest version as a bespoke Django-based platform.
It includes extensive catalogue management tools, and the fast and efficient shopping cart and checkout system used by customers. Behind the scenes, the system integrates online event registration, ebook and mobile app publishing, email marketing, stock control, and sales reporting and even royalties. It’s a whole lot faster than its predecessor, meaning fewer frustrated customers bouncing out after a slow page load.
As a book seller, The Good Book Company also needs to deal directly with other vendors, including Amazon.com and other North American companies. I added an Electronic Data Interchange system that allows orders to be submitted and fulfilled through a third party, with invoices automatically generated and processed.
The system has so far proved to be scalable, flexible, and easy to use.
